A number of recently formed organisations are now officially in charge of managing the 80 training packages (as of 2/2/16) that exist in the VET sector in Australia.
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC)
This committee pretty much replicates the functions of the old NSSC. Made up of industry leaders from across the country they make decisions about what qualifications are required and endorse new and revised training packages.
Industry Reference Committees (IRCs)
These committees are made up of people with experience in a particular industry. IRCs inform the content of training packages and engage the assistance of the relevant SSO (see below) to support the development of particular training packages.
Skills Service Organisations (SSOs)
These organisations (there are currently 5) support IRCs in developing training packages required by a particular industry. They have a similar function to the former Industry Skills Councils (ISCs).
